One of the greatest problems humanity faces with each other and ourselves is the need for perfection; perfection in our actions, perfection from the actions of others and perfection from the outcome of circumstances in general. We become so disappointed and filled with grief when others and ourselves do not measure up to this imaginary perfect outcome or situation, we fantasize often of this perfect world. How often do we fail to try new things because of the fear we will not perform well enough or we haven’t practiced to perfection, this idea robs of the moment and of living fully. The real truth is that “perfection” just doesn’t exist; I am not quite sure how or why it even became a word in our vocabulary, but in life all things exist perfectly already, perfectly with their imperfections. All we can do is work toward awareness; be aware and mindful of our thoughts, mindful in our actions, and mindful in our speech.
Like my meditation instructor Paul spoke about this past Friday, it’s all about our intentions; ask yourself; what are my intentions behind what I am about to say? What are my intentions behind what I am about to do right now? Being mindful of our own thoughts and actions will allow us to live in balance amidst all the beautiful imperfections of this world.
